Dr. Thomas D. Allison, Esq., DPA is a legal professional, nonprofit executive, scholar/professor, and health and wellness professional. These four areas define his professional career.
Law:
Dr. Allison is a forward-thinking and innovative leader with over a decade of experience in the legal field, serving as an attorney, legal professor, and judge pro tem. Dr. Allison licensed to practice law in five states and has held trials in multiple states. Dr. Allison has represented many clients in family, criminal, civil, and business related matters. Dr. Allison works everyday to inspire future legal professionals. Additionally, Dr. Allison has instructed over 60 college and law school courses on various aspects of the law. Dr. Allison has a dream of shifting the culture and context of legal practice and the availability of legal services.
Nonprofit Executive:
Dr. Allison is a nonprofit founder and executive with a doctorate in public administration. In 2020, Dr. Allison’s nonprofit received the California Nonprofit of the Year Award. Dr. Allison has hosted and facilitated more than 200 community-based programs, including more than 100 pro bono legal clinics, reaching more than 1,000 people with free, practical education. Dr. Allison is a dynamic public speaker, program facilitator, and operations expert, having a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and a PSM certification. Dr. Allison has more than ten years of governance experience on 15 local, regional, and national boards, commissions, and committees, including as a planning commissioner and chair of Rotary District 5300's DEI committee.
Scholar/Professor:
Dr. Allison is a scholar having written course textbooks in Family Law, Civil Litigation, Legal Research and Writing, and Critical Race Theory. Dr. Allison is a recipient of the 2023 University of La Verne's Faculty Scholar Award. Dr. Allison has been published multiple times in peer-reviewed academic journals, and have several other papers in the publishing process. Dr. Allison is a faculty leader on ULV’s campus.
Health and Wellness Professional:
Finally, as a former childhood and college athlete, health and wellness are passions of Dr. Allison. Dr. Allison is a certified personal trainer, holistic nutritionist, group fitness instructor, and health coach. Dr. Allison did a faculty research fellowship that studied the intersection between community motivation and wellness. The result is a research-based model that combines theories of motivation with theories of behavior change to produce a community-based health and wellness program.
