Spousal Support

A primary concern for couples facing divorce or legal separation is spousal support. How much am I going to be ordered to pay? How much am I going to receive? In California, there are two types of spousal support. A temporary spousal support lasts during the pendency of a divorce case, while a permanent or judgement spousal support order is ordered after a divorce has been finalized.

• The respective income of the parties
• The age and health of the parties
• The marital standard of living
• Relative education
• The presence of domestic violence in the marriage
• The tax consequences of a spousal support award
• When the party did not work outside the home because of domestic duties
• Any other factors that the court deems to be important, relevant, and equitable
